Located in the Midwest region of the United States, the State of Illinois is the fourth most populous in the country. It borders Wisconsin to the north, Indiana to the east, Kentucky to the south, and Iowa and Missouri to the west. Illinois' history is quite similar to that of many other American states: the region belonged to France until 1763, when it came under British rule. After the United States War of Independence in 1783, the Americans took control of the territory and, on December 3, 1818, created the State of Illinois.
Geographically, it is characterized by its very flat terrain. Illinois has more than 500 rivers in its territory, such as the Mississippi River and the Illinois River. The state is well known for its relatively unstable climate. This is due to the fact that its terrain is not very rough, which allows the entry of air masses more easily. Average temperatures are 25ºC in summer and -5ºC in winter.
Illinois is one of the most important American states. Its largest city, Chicago, is the second largest financial hub in the United States, second only to New York City. Among the most important sources of income in the State, we can mention the provision of services, the manufacturing industry, agriculture and tourism.
