Meaning of Level of Education (What it is, Concept and Definition)

Education level corresponds to level of education that a given individual has, indicating the study steps that have been started or completed.

In Brazil, there are different classifications that indicate the level of education (or level of education), which can be defined as complete or incomplete. Look:

  • Illiterate: individual who cannot read and write;
  • Incomplete elementary school: did not complete all the years corresponding to this cycle of studies (1st to 9th grade);
  • Complete primary education: completed the cycle of basic studies (1st to 9th grade);
  • Incomplete high school: did not complete all the years corresponding to this cycle (1st to 3rd year);
  • Complete high school: completed this cycle of studies (1st to 3rd year);
  • University degree (or graduation): completed a higher education course (baccalaureate or licentiate);
  • Postgraduate studies: specialization within the higher education course that has been completed;
  • Master's degree: graduate degree that guarantees a master's degree in a certain area;
  • Doctorate degree: postgraduate degree that guarantees a doctoral degree in a particular area of ​​research;
  • Post doctoral: research activity or internship that can be performed after the completion of the doctorate.

Previously, levels of education were defined by the following levels of education: 1st degree (elementary School), 2nd degree (high school) and 3rd degree (University education).

How important is the level of education?

Since the level of education indicates the level of education and study, it can be used to check whether a person is able to work in a profession, to fill a certain job vacancy or to take a competitive examination public.

The degree of education can therefore be used for purposes of classification and selection, separating individuals into groups so that they can compete for a job, for example, only among those with the same level of education.

Thus, the greater the person's level of education, the greater will be the opportunities to get more differentiated and better paid jobs.
