Brazilian athletes who won gold in the Olympics

Although it is not a country that has won a significant number of medals in Olympic Games, Brazil has an important trajectory in this event. From a total of 108 medals, the Brazilians managed to win 23 gold (the remainder corresponds to 30 silver and 55 bronze), the first being in 1920, in Antwerp Olympics. See the list of all of them and the respective athletes responsible for the achievement:

  • 1920: shooting test

It was at the Olympics in Antwerp (Netherlands), held in 1920, that Guilherme Paraense (1884-1968) won the first Olympic gold for Brazil, in a shooting competition. paraense was lieutenant ofArmyBrazilian and took first place in the rapid pistol shooting mode.

  • 1952 and 1956: athletics (triple jump)

The second and third gold medals were won by the same person: Adhemar Ferreira da Silva. Ademar was athletics representative, and the two gold medals came from his success in the triple jump event. The first was achieved in the Helsinki Games (Denmark), in 1952, and the second, in Melbourne Games, in Australia, in 1956.

  • 1980: sailing (tornado and 470)

After Adhemar's achievements, Brazil stayed six Olympics without winning a gold medal. Only in 1980 did two pairs of sailors again win gold medals for Brazil. The fact occurred in the Moscow Games, na then Unitysoviet. the pairs were Eduardo Penido and Marcos Soares (modality 470) and alexanderWelter and LarsBjohkstrom.

  • 1984: athletics (800 meters)

In the following games, played in Los Angeles, United States, it was the sprinter's turn JoaquimCross win another Olympic gold for Brazil in athletics, in the 800 meter modality.

  • 1988: judo

US Seoul Games (South Korea), it was the turn of the first Brazilian judoka to win a gold medal. The feat was performed by Aurelio Miguel, who competed in the -95 kg modality, that is, light heavyweight.

  • 1992: men's judo and volleyball

US Barcelona Games (Spain), once again judo brought a gold medal to Brazil, this time with Rogério Sampaio, in the -65 kg mode. In addition to Rogério, the Brazilian men's volleyball team also took the top of the podium. The starting athletes were: Amauri, Pampa, Carlão, Douglas, Giovane, Janelson, Jorge Edson, Marcelo Negrão, Maurício, Paulão, Talmo and Tande.

  • 1996: sailing (laser and star) and beach volleyball

In the Atlanta Olympics, United States, sailing and volleyball again brought gold medals to Brazil. In sailing, the protagonists were RobertScheidt, which navigated in laser mode, and the duo MarceloFerreira and Torbengrael, in Star mode. In volleyball, the female beach volleyball team prevailed, jaquelineSilva and SandraSaucer.

  • 2004: sailing (laser and Star), horseback riding, beach volleyball and men's volleyball

US Athens Games, again RobertScheidt, in laser mode, and the duo MarceloFerreira and Torbengrael, in the Star modality, got more gold medals for Brazil in sailing. In addition, we also won gold in the individual jump modality in equestrianism per RodrigoPeople; gold also with the men's beach volleyball team immanuelTrench and Ricardo Alex Santos; and, finally, gold with the men's indoor volleyball team, whose team consisted of: Anderson, André Nascimento, André Heller, Dante, Giba, Giovane, Gustavo, Maurício, Nalbert, Ricardo, Rodrigão and Sérgio.

  • 2004: Pierre de Coubertin Medal for Vanderlei Cordeiro de Lima

At the same Olympiad in Athens, a curious fact occurred with the marathon runner Vanderlei Cordeiro de Lima. He was about to finish the race and get gold for Brazil, but was interrupted by corneliusHoran, former Irish priest who was among the spectators. Vanderlei, stunned, still managed to finish 3rd and win the bronze medal. A while later, the Olympic committee awarded him the organization's highest honor: the Pierre de Coubertin Medal.

  • 2008: athletics, swimming and women's volleyball

In the following games, played in Beijing (China), it was the turn of the Brazilian women's volleyball team win gold for Brazil. The team consisted of Carol, Fabi, Fabiana, Fofão, Jaqueline, Mari, Paula Pequeno, Sheilla, Sassá, Thaisa, Valeskinha and Walewska. In addition to this achievement, we also had the swimmer's gold César Cielo, in the 50 meter freestyle mode, and the jumper Maurren Maggi, in the long jump mode.

  • 2012: women's volleyball, judo, gymnastics (rings)

In 2012, in the London Games (England), again the Brazilian women's volleyball team got the gold. This time the team consisted of: Fabiana, Dani Lins, Paula Pequeno, Sheilla, Adenízia, Thaisa, Fernandinha, Jaqueline, Tandara, Natália, Fabi and Fernada Garay. In addition to this achievement, we also had the success of judoka Sarah Meneses, who won the gold in the light modality (-48 kg), and gymnast Arthur Zanetti, which also took the gold in the form of rings.

  • 2016: best performance

In games played at Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), national athletes had the best performance in history. Brazil conquered seven gold medals with the following athletes and sports: Athletics - Thiago Braz (Pole vault); Boxing - Robson Conception (Category up to 60 kg); Judo - Rafaela Silva (Category up to 57 kg); Candle - Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze (Class 49er FX); Beach volleyball - Alison and Bruno Schmidt; Men's Volleyball; men's football.

- Men's Volleyball: William, Éder Carbonera, Wallace, Luiz Felipe, Evandro, Lucarelli, Bruno Rezende, Lucas, Sérgio Dutra, Maurício Borges, Douglas Souza and Maurício Souza.

- Men's Football: Weverton (Goal), Zeca, Rodrigo Caio, Marquinhos, Douglas Santos, Wallace, Renato Augusto, Neymar, Gabriel, Gabriel Jesus, Luan, Uilson (Goal), William, Luan Garcia, Rodrigo Dourado, Thiago Maia, Rafinha Alcântara and Felipe Anderson.
