Legendary American record producer born in Florence, Alabama, founder of the legendary record label Sun Records, where he released artists such as Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Roy Orbison. He began his career as a radio announcer in Alabama, Tennessee and Nashiville. Before founding his famous record label, he worked as a talent scout for labels such as Chess and Modern.
He opened the Sun Records label in Memphis, Tennessee (1952), and before Elvis' success, he worked with black artists such as B.B. King and Rufus Thomas. Sun Records released (1954) Elvis' first album, which included, among others, the songs That's All Right, Mama and Blue Moon of Kentucky and, two years later, sold Elvis' contract to the RCA record label for a paltry $35,000 (1956).
He left the record industry in 1962 and sold his record label to Nashiville producer Shelby Singleton (1969) but to this day, in Memphis, the Sun Records studio is visited by thousands of tourists every year. years old.
