Injury is the action of offend someone's honor and dignity. It means the same as insulting, offending others. It originates from the word injustice, and corresponds to what is unfair, the opposite of what is right.
In criminal terms, the law defines the injury as one of the honor crimes, as well as slander and defamation. It is the offensive act or saying, which represents something dishonorable to another party. It is understood as subjective honor, which, unlike defamation, which undermines objective honor (reputation), is about terms related to a person's qualities.
The crime of injury counts in the article 140 of the Criminal Code (CP), and the criminal complaint for injury may lead to a sentence of 1 (one) to 6 (six) months of imprisonment and a fine. The veracity of the accusation does not affect the process either.
From a legal perspective, an example of injury is offending someone by directly calling them a "thief", "asshole", "idiot", "imbecile", and in the case of qualified insult, "monkey", "fag", "old man", among other insults and words of slang.
The Brazilian justice still provides for the royal injury, or also called physical injury, which is physical aggression in a vexatious way. Like a slap in the face, for example, which causes a humiliating situation in addition to bodily injury.
For medicine, an injury is a trauma caused by an external factor. Acute kidney injury (ARF), or kidney damage and kidney failure, is the sudden decrease in kidney function. Epithelial injury or lung injury is a lung injury resulting from an acute inflammatory situation, and can be caused by severe asthma.

Racial injury, or also called qualified injury, is provided for by article 140 of the Penal Code, paragraph 3, and corresponds to offending an individual using characteristics of their color, belief, ethnicity, or their condition as an elderly person or person with deficiency.
Like, for example, using terms like "monkey" as an insult to a black person, or "retarded" directed at a person with mental illness.
Difference between racism and racial injury
The difference between racism and racial slur lies with who the action is directed to. Racism is discriminatory behavior towards an entire group or collectivity, while racial injury is the offense directed at an individual of different color, ethnicity, religious belief, elderly or with deficiency.
Racism is a crime provided for by law n. 7716/1989, and racial injury is determined within the crime of injury in the Penal Code.
The crime of racism is unbailable and does not expire, while racial injury expires in eight years.
