Population Aspects of Central Asia

Central Asia corresponds to a subcontinent located in the center of the Asian continent, which is regionalized in Central Asia, Far East, North Asia, Middle East, Southeast Asia and South of Asia.
Central Asia is made up of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. The subcontinent covers an area of 4 million km2, in which about 60 million inhabitants live. The populations of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan together amount to 45 million, a number that represents 75% of the population of Central Asia.
Much of the population is in the countryside, thus, economic activities are linked to agricultural production. Access to health services is very poor, a fact that explains the high rates of infant mortality and low life expectancy rates. In Uzbekistan, for example, among a thousand born, 68.9 children die; and life expectancy is 65 years. Given the above characteristics, a high number of young people in the absolute population can be seen.
