Gaetano Rapagnetta, the Gabriele D'Annunzio

Italian poet born in Pescara, Italy, whose work and challenging personality made him one of the most controversial figures of his time.
At 16 he published his first poems and at 18 he left for Rome, marking the beginning of a life full of love adventures, along which he knew corruption within high society and gave him contempt for moral conventions, especially demonstrated in his books Il piacere (1889), Elegie romane (1891), L'innocente (1892) and Il trionfo della morte (1894) and Laudi del cielo, del mare, della terra e degli eroi (1899).
After separating from actress Eleonora Duse, great passion of her life and inspiring dramatic pieces like La figlia di Iorio (1904), went to France (1910), but returned to Italy to fight in the first war worldwide. He took the town of Fiume (1919), which he declared himself regent and joined the fascist regime of Mussolini. In his later years he devoted himself to writing autobiographical texts and died in Gardone Riviera.
