Christ means redeemer, messiah. From the Latin “Christu”, derived from the Greek “Khristós”, which means “anointed”, which in turn derives from the Hebrew “Mashiach” which means “Messiah”.
Christ is an expression used to describe that person who is the victim of abuse, persecution and ridicule. The phrases “playing the Christ” or “being the Christ” are used to refer to that individual who pays for another person's error or who suffers in someone else's place.
Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ, Jesus of Nazareth or Christ, a Jewish child born in Bethlehem, represented with his birth the turning point of history, dating the Modern era from his birth. Christianity realized the importance of Jesus Christ.
Christians believe that Jesus was the Christ consecrated by God, the long-awaited Messiah of the Jews, the righteous one who would deliver his people from the dominion of Rome and give them back their country. They believe that Jesus Christ is the only Son of God and that He became incarnate (received human form) to reconcile humanity with God.
Jesus Christ was born during the government of Augustus (63 a. C.-14), and Christianity - religious doctrine based on its teachings developed in the Roman Empire. The first serious persecutions against Christians took place in the time of Emperor Nero.
What we know of Christ's life and teachings is recorded in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, as well as various quotes and stories found in other books of the New Testament.
Christ the Redeemer
The Christ the Redeemer is a statue 38 meters high, weighing 1145 tons representing Jesus Christ. It was installed on Corcovado Mountain, 710 meters above sea level, in the Tijuca National Park, in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
The statue was designed by artist Carlos Oswald and designed by French architect Paul Landowsky. Begun in 1926, it took five years to complete, being inaugurated on August 12, 1931. In 2007, the work was elected one of the new Wonders of the World.
