Spanish poet, philosopher and theologian born in Palma de Mallorca, then belonging to the kingdom of Aragon, considered the greatest Hispanic thinker of the Middle Ages and considered the founder of Orientalism in the Western. After a new mystical experience (1272) on Mount Randa de Mallorca, he began to write his main work, Ars magna, a collection of treatises, including Arbor scientiae or The Tree of Science, in which he postulated the existence of general scientific principles which encompassed particular knowledge.
