Every year, the “Santa Claus of the Post Office” campaign makes the dreams of Christmas of thousands of needy children across Brazil.
With the initiative, children write letters that are made available at state agencies throughout the country. Thus, interested people can “adopt” one of these letters and fulfill the requests contained therein.

Generally, children ask for gifts such as various toys, clothes, shoes and even amounts of money to help around the house.
It is imperative that the letters contain the child's name and address, as a later Santa Claus “for real” will be responsible for taking the donated gifts to the homes of the little ones who are eligible.
Letters are sent and collected throughout the year, but the deadline for adopting requests was December 15th, 10 days before the expected date.
However, in an initiative that aims to increase the number of children served and requests accepted, the Post Office increased the deadline for adopting letters to December 20th.
More deadlines, more dreams come true
As of this Tuesday (5), the Post Office had already received 237 thousand letters, with 134 thousand having already been adopted. In 2023, the total numbers were 252 thousand and 187 thousand, respectively.
According to the state-owned company, the objective for 2024 is for 100% of letters to be delivered. Furthermore, despite the extension of the deadline for adoption, the commitment to deliver gifts by December 25th remains the same.
A solidarity initiative
Started 34 years ago, the Correios Santa Claus campaign was the idea of employees of the state-owned company, especially postmen who came across letters from needy children.
Later, the action that began in a timid and targeted way expanded and became an internal policy of Correios in partnership with schools, governments and civil society.
The company targets children who are studying from the 1st to the 5th of primary school and live in situations of vulnerability and/or extreme need.
How to participate in the program?
If you want to respond to a needy child's request, simply go to the nearest post office or access the institution website, choose a card and adopt.
To send the gift, simply package it correctly and add the delivery address. Then, just go to the nearest agency again and make the dispatch. The delivery of gifts is the sole responsibility of the Post Office.
