The most purchased telephone packages in Brazil in 2023 are those that fall under the control type, even though they charge more for what they deliver. This was the conclusion of the survey carried out by MelhorPlano.net, a platform that compares telephone and internet plans offered by operators.

The analysis took into account the main companies in Brazil: Of course, Tim and Vivo. In addition, the main suppliers operating in Brazil and the most relevant regional and virtual operators on the national scene were also analyzed. According to Felipe Byrro, one of the main mistakes consumers make when choosing packages is not looking at the Gigabytes (GB) of internet.
Amount of internet in packages
One of the main measures to analyze internet data capacity is the GBs of the packages offered. However, this information is ignored by consumers, who focus more on the monthly fee price and other benefits that the packages include. The higher the number of Gigabytes, the more content can be accessed via the mobile internet.
By identifying which packages were most sold between January and October 2023, MelhorPlano concluded Since these are the packages with the worst value for money on the market, I take into account the price per gigabytes provided. Are they:
- Algar Telecom: Algar 15 Giga (83.51%);
- Clear: Claro Controle 15GB (60.63%);
- Icon Next: Easy 14GB (86.84%);
- Surf Telecom: Mega 40 (99.33%);
- TIM: TIM Controle 25GB (32.25%);
- Alive: Vivo Controle 14GB (37.27%).
“The cost per gigabyte is not something that the user evaluates at the first moment when finding a cell phone plan. Even if the plan has a small internet allowance, if the service includes unlimited applications, It’s already a positive point, especially for those who don’t use the internet as much on a daily basis”, said Felipe Byrro.
Growth in preference for the control plan
Control plans are those in which the consumer pays a monthly amount in exchange for a pre-determined allowance for calls, internet and SMS. Thus, the packages work like prepaid, but are charged in the same way as postpaid plans. They are a good option for those looking to have greater control over cell phone spending.
According to Byrro, interest in prepaid plans has been decreasing in recent years, while control plans have greater adoption. “This may happen, in the case of control plans, because they are services that normally offer more benefits to consumers for a lower monthly price”, he explains.
