Users will only be able to download Reels published in “public” mode. When the download finishes, the video will be available in your smartphone's video library.
Competition with other apps
Instagram's new functionality is quite similar to what has been practiced by TikTok and Kwai for some time. Until then, Instagram Reels could only be shared, but never saved offline.
Social network users Goal Residents in the United States have already had access to the tool since June, as a test. Now, hundreds of millions of app users can download Reels.
“You can now save Reels created by public accounts to your camera roll — any Reels you download will include a watermark with the creator's Instagram handle. We launched this in the US in early June and it is now available globally,” said CEO Adam Mosseri, in his statement.
