When preparing a meal for his family, Doriedson decided to use the tomato moho a week after purchasing it, on November 18th. “On Saturday, my daughter and I ate pasta that had been prepared with this sauce,” said Doriedson in an interview with the newspaper A Tribuna, in Santos (SP).
However, the bricklayer reported that he only noticed the foreign body in the sauce a day later, when he went to use the rest of the packaging. “I went to season some more pasta and then this strange body fell out, which I thought was rat skin full of maggots around it. My biggest concern is that we end up consuming the product,” he said.
Fugini claimed damage to the packaging
After consumption, Doriedson stated that he and his daughter had stomach pains and nausea. Upon being notified about the situation, Fugini Alimentos issued a note stating that the foreign body found in the sauce It may have been caused by damage to the product packaging.
Additionally, the company stated that the damage may have been caused during transportation or storage. “As it does not contain preservatives and is a completely natural product, the entry of air due to damage to the packaging can cause contamination of the product,” he stated in a note.
Fugini claimed that she had already contacted Doriedson to understand the situation. In its defense, the company claimed that it complies with all obligations to guarantee the safety of its products and consumers.
Tomato sauce has already been suspended by Anvisa
This is not the first time that a foreign body has been found in Fugini's tomato sauces. In March 2023, the Anvisa suspended the manufacturing, marketing, distribution and use of Fugini foods, manufactured in Monte Alto (SP).
According to the agency, hygiene flaws and a lack of quality and safety control were found in the raw materials used to manufacture the products. The situation was detected after a health inspection carried out at the factory.
Finally, Fugini admitted at the time that it had used an expired dye in the manufacture of mayonnaise. However, the suspension imposed by Anvisa was revoked in April, after the company adjusted the points raised by the body.
