Is it a miracle? Find out how an entrepreneur turned R$3,000 into his first 1 million

In 2015, Gabriel Farrel, founder and CEO of Borda e Lenha, started a food truck business with a investment starting price of just R$3,000.

Although many considered this a modest sum to enter the food truck market at the time, Farrel's entrepreneurial vision proved to be a profitable investment.

Just 21 years old at the time, he made the decision to leave environmental engineering college to follow his passion and create his own source of income.

The young entrepreneur built a wood-burning oven in the back of his academy teacher's truck and designed a pallet structure to sell pizzas at street events in Rio de Janeiro.

This landmark initiative was the starting point for the development of a successful business that became millionaires over time.

The speed of delivery, customization of products, affordable prices and the aroma of fresh pasta not only won over the inhabitants of Rio de Janeiro January, but they also caught the attention of notable investors, such as José Semenzato and Felipe Titto, during their participation in the program “Shark Tank Brasil” in 2021.

The secret of success

Gabriel used a captivating strategy to attract investors. He allowed the “sharks” to choose the flavors of the pizzas and, at the beginning of the question round, he handed over the freshly prepared products.

In less than five minutes, he transformed the tense atmosphere into a pleasant pizzeria, creating an environment conducive to closing business deals.

This effective strategy helped drive Borda e Lenha’s rapid growth. Previously, with just four units, three franchised and one owned, the company expanded to 26 operations and has already negotiated another 28, totaling 54 units in September this year.

This impressive growth, represented by a 650% increase in the number of stores opened and a 1350% increase in stores sold, was not limited to just the streets of Rio de Janeiro. It is spreading throughout Brazil, covering nine different states.

Revenue also reflects this success, with revenue of R$1.2 million in 2021. Projections indicate that this year it should exceed the initial estimate, which was R$10 million.

The story of Borda e Lenha is an inspiring example of how innovation and dedication can transform a modest business into a powerhouse in the market.
