With the advancement of Artificial intelligence (AI) and the use of Machine Learning, the reality of cars is undergoing a major transformation. The use of AI has already helped in the functioning of cars, making them more efficient and autonomous. Furthermore, the models are also safer, given the use of sensors, exchange of information with other vehicles, cameras and other digital options, using V2X (Vehicle to Everything).

Smart cars have the ability to avoid collisions by recognizing pedestrians and other vehicles, in addition to interpreting traffic signs and even dealing with complete situations such as intersections and roundabouts. In addition to these functions, several others, such as controlling the speed and distance of other cars, are already a reality in more modern cars.
Future of autonomous cars
About 80% of accidents involving autonomous cars occur due to the fault of drivers in ordinary cars. The other 20% occurs due to the inadequate use of vehicle technology. In this way, it is possible to predict that vehicle steering will increasingly be transferred to the processors of autonomous cars.
According to the survey “Autotrader: Car Buyer Journey”, carried out by Gartner in 2022, up to 84% of drivers would prefer to use their time driving to carry out other activities. Thus, smart cars have the potential to revolutionize the mobility market, functioning as a kind of private driver for the owner.
When thinking about this possibility, mobility becomes more accessible for the elderly and People with Disabilities (PwD), allowing them to easily move around cities.
Could autonomous cars eliminate the need for a driver's license?
When imagining a car that drives itself, many questions come into consideration. One of the main ones is the need for driver's license to drive these vehicles, as they will be driven by its AI system. Currently, the subway system on some lines already works intelligently, with the driver being responsible for other functions, not driving the subway.
Therefore, the expectation is that this same system will reach cars, as virtual trails are already being planned in the most modern cities. With smarter and safer cars, it is possible that the driver's license will change and no longer resemble the model and function it currently has.
