In 2020, the number of students enrolled in distance learning courses surpassed that of those enrolled in on-site courses at educational institutions in Brazil for the first time.

The measure meets resistance

Professional councils, such as the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) and the federal Nursing, Psychology and Dentistry councils, express concerns related to the quality of training.

The bodies highlighted that courses involving practical skills cannot be effectively taught without direct interaction with patients and healthcare equipment.

On the other hand, higher education institutions that support distance learning argue that this modality represents a tool for democratize access to education, allowing courses to be offered to students in remote areas, expanding the reach of training academic.

However, to date, the MEC has not specified which regulations related to distance learning will be discussed in the public consultation.
