What is the motivation for charging more taxes on these vehicles?
After the import of electric vehicles had their taxes zeroed from the year 2015, today the idea is to return with this charge. The objective is to stimulate the local production and sale of such vehicles after the arrival of producers in Brazil.
“What can we do to stimulate local production? Make imports a little more difficult and expensive”, declared Uallace Moreira.
Furthermore, the secretary reinforces that such a measure was also introduced in other countries after the arrival of companies producing electric vehicles.

The measure also aims to strengthen the trade of electric cars by producers such as BYD and GWM, which recently entered the national market.
With the introduction of the new technology, other companies such as Caoa Chery and Jac Motors also began to invest heavily in the transition from combustion to electrification.
Defense of the collection of Import Taxes on electric cars
In a press conference held on the 6th, the president of the National Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea), Márcio de Lima Leite, defended the return of taxes. According to him, the idea is to reinforce competition between local production companies with more attractive prices.
For him, the collection of Import Taxes on electric cars in Brazil should strengthen the national industry and help in its development.
This will positively impact the change in fleets used by Brazilians and reduce the emission of toxic gases from combustion vehicles.
Newcomers BYD and GWM invested in the purchase of facilities in Brazil, located in Camaçari (BA) and Iracemápolis (SP), with the aim of manufacturing electric vehicles of national origin. Previously, such facilities were under the ownership of Ford and Mercedes-Benz.
