The search for the “Lost City Z”
Percy Fawcett's first expedition to South America took place in 1906, when he was tasked with demarcating the border between Brazil, Bolivia and Peru by the English Royal Geographical Society.

His most ambitious journey began in 1920, when he arrived in Brazil with plans for an expedition that could last up to two years. However, Fawcett faced challenges early on in the trip.
His meeting with President Epitácio Pessoa and Marshal Cândido Rondon was not successful, and he insisted on continuing the expedition alone, refusing the offer of a Brazilian delegation.
The “Lost City Z” and its disappearance
Fawcett's goal was to find the legendary “Lost City Z,” the existence of which he believed to be based on historical documents, such as Document 512, found in the National Library of Rio de Janeiro January.
This lost place would have been discovered in the 18th century, in the backlands of Bahia, by a person who ended up getting lost and finding the ruins of an abandoned city. Fawcett's search for the place was his obsession.

His last expedition left in May 1925, and it included his son Jack and a friend named Raleigh Rimmel. From that point on, the story of Percy Fawcett and his companions becomes a mystery.
Despite subsequent searches and expeditions, no concrete trace of his whereabouts was found.
Theories and legends about the disappearance
Over the years, several stories have emerged about the fate of Percy Fawcett and his expedition. Some believe they were killed by indigenous tribes, while others speculate that they found the “Lost City Z” and remained there for generations, leading an esoteric community.
Other, more fanciful stories suggest that they discovered an underground world and lived there for many decades after their disappearance.
The truth is that, despite all the expeditions and searches, the mystery surrounding the fate of Percy Fawcett and his search for the “Lost City Z” remains unsolved.
