An event that has been breaking records for attendance and attractions, the 2023 Book Biennial – which takes place from the 1st to the 10th of September, at Riocentro, Rio – received, until last Wednesday (6), visits from 20 thousand students from the state education network in Rio de Janeiro.
To encourage student participation, the state government gave each of them a R$100 voucher so that they could buy books at the fair, as well as the five thousand teachers, who received R$200 to purchase works, through application.

“Every effort made by the State government was worth it. During those days, over 20,000 students from our education network left here with books, happy, with their creativity heightened and encouraged to dream,” she said. Secretary of Education of Rio, professor Roberta Barreto, who participated in activities at the “Educação de Talento” stand, a Seeduc-RJ space, aimed at students and teachers. For the secretary, school visits to the event are of great importance to bring children and young people closer to the literary universe.
3rd grade high school student, Thays Rois, 18 years old, admitted her anxiety about going to the fair straight away, confessing that literature is one of her passions. “I couldn't sleep well last night, I woke up all the time. It was difficult to contain the anxiety of being at the Biennale for the first time. I'm a reading lover and I planned to be here: I made a list of the books I wanted to buy, I researched the places that had the cheapest prices, I brought a map of the event. It’s all incredible,” she said.
Educational activities – During their visit to the Biennale, students from Rio participated in educational activities, such as quizzes, storytelling stories and debate workshops, on important topics, such as: ethnic-racial relations, disease transmission, among others. The “Education Talents” stand will remain active until next Sunday (10), with several attractions.
“I loved the stand, it’s very attractive. We looked around and already wanted to see it. Above all, we were well received, we loved the interactive activities that Seeduc-RJ is offering. providing”, approved the student from Colégio Estadual Prefeito Mendes de Moraes, on Ilha do Governador, Maria Luiza Pessoa.
“For my children” – Gari and debut writer, Valdeci Boareto is the author of the book, launched in the middle of the biennial, entitled “Behavior that saves you”, where he tells true stories he has experienced, over the last 26 years, in schools and in the streets. Friendly, Boareto signed autographs and made new friends. “Every time I clean a table, every time I clean a floor, a bathroom, it’s as if I were cleaning it for my children”, he confesses.
