In May of this year Chinese researchers discovered a Himalayan cypress that has come to be seen as the tallest in Asia. The specimen was found in the Yarlung Zangbo canyon, in Tibet.

The tree is 102.3 meters high, being equated to a large building of about 30 floors, an incredible landmark.

This discovery was made possible by an evaluation carried out with a drone used by the group of scientists from Peking University, Shan Shui Conservation Center and Xizijiang Conservation Center.

The tallest tree in Asia is in Tibet

Giant tree species are an extremely rare find in the world, because their existence depends on many climatic and soil factors. This shows its resistance to wind, lightning, fire and human interference.

These giants are highly valued by scholars for their irreplaceable importance for local biodiversity.

They are generally impressive for their branch and root structures, in addition to being important for some species of plants and animals in the region where they are located.

Himalayan cypresses, the species in question, are priority trees in China's species protection system, as their existence in wild places is quite rare. Thus, the responsible bodies dedicate great efforts to preserve them.
