Archaeologists at the University of Bern have found evidence of a settlement at Lake Ohrid, located in southeastern Macedonia and northern and eastern Albania.
According to scientific research, there was a civilization on the site between the years 6000 a. W. and 5800 a. W. This was the dating obtained from the ceramics found by archeology scientists.
In that sense, Hafner pointed out that the lake at Lin is the oldest on the European continent. Even when compared to other lagoon regions, this one is hundreds of years older.
How did this ancient civilization live?
According to the results presented by the research, these primordial humans lived in villages and used the technology of the time to carry out important tasks.
Consequently, such constructions were complex. The exploration of the place takes place slowly, otherwise the evidence, such as the village structures themselves, could be damaged.
Thus, it becomes difficult to reach conclusions and estimate dates. Another factor that impacts the research is the vegetation, which extends throughout the region and can hinder the work of archaeologists.
At the same time, the vegetation itself is also proof that this millennial people survived from the agriculture. Furthermore, domesticated livestock was a common practice at the time.

To arrive at this understanding, the group collected data on plants, fossils of domesticated animals and seeds. Scientists have further expanded their roles and gone into a dive—literally.
Archaeologist Adrian Anastasi rescued ceramic fragments made of flint from the bottom of the lake. This is a rocky material that can vary in color but maintains a unique texture as it is composed of fine grains.
Finally, the collected items also indicate that this ancient civilization had to cut down its forest, putting an end to its biome, in order to protect itself and manage to survive.
The dive also found boards that were possibly used for the defense of this people, a fact that indicates that there may have been conflicts between peoples in the region.
