More than 122 teams of high school students from across the country signed up to participate in the first edition of GamethONS, a technology challenge for public schools in Brazil.
Organized by the National Electrical System Operator (ONS) and with the support of Sincroniza Educação, the initiative suggests that students create an unprecedented game about sustainable practices and energy.

In all, the unprecedented competition got representatives from 14 Brazilian states and more than 40 cities.
For Marcelo Prais, one of the ONS directors, the representativeness of the challenge was very expressive. To the registrations started in March and the challenge reached many students and teachers interested in the proposal.
In the final step, all teams produced accessible and educational digital games. The top three were awarded ONS kits, notebooks and competition certificate. Students will still have a year of subscription to the Head Energia platform.
What is the GamethONS Challenge?
GamethONS is a project created in 2023 that aims to provide students with training to develop innovative proposals for the electricity sector.
Thus, the main objective is to engage high school students from public schools in the creation of digital games “linked to energy, sustainability and the Brazilian electrical system”.
Through a competition, the organizers want to disseminate knowledge of technology and digital environments.

Electrical Conductor – Nova Friburgo (RJ);
Blown Fuse – Belo Horizonte (MG).

Popular vote at GamethONS 2023
In addition to competing for prizes, the teams also had the opportunity to get to know the public's opinion.
Through popular vote during the period from August 1st to August 8th, an audience decided which was the “public favorite” game.
The big winner was the game “A Jornada de Tucson”, developed by the team from the city of Bombinhas, Santa Catarina.
Information about the second edition of the GamethONS challenge has not yet been defined by the organizers. However, they promise to continue with initiatives aimed at sustainability in 2024.
