Deputy asks PGE-SP to remove secretary for 'conflict of interests'

'Conflict of interests'. Under this argument related to moral suitability, state deputy Emídio Souza (PT/SP) filed a lawsuit with the General Attorney of Justice of São Paulo (PGE-SP), in asking for the immediate removal of the Secretary of Education, Renato Feder, a shareholder of Multilaser, a informatics that maintains a contract, in the amount of R$ 200 million, with the government of São Paulo, for the supply of 97 thousand notebooks to the schools of the network education state.

According to market information, Feder is a partner of offshore of Dragon Gem LLC – owner of 28.16% of the shares of Multilaser (a national company) – headquartered in the Yankee state of Delaware, a tax haven. Another revealing fact is that the contracts signed between the US company and the São Paulo government would have been signed in December 2022, shortly after Tarcísio de Freitas was elected governor, but before Feder took office as secretary. The last contract, worth BRL 76 million, was signed on December 21 of last year, when the secretary had already been announced for the position.

Federal government plans to include 'Best Age' in EJA

Opened by prosecutor André Pascoa, from the Citizenship Prosecutor's Office, in March this year, the investigation was passed on to the Attorney General of Justice of São Paulo, Mario Sarrubbo, who has the competence to prosecute authorities that have privileged jurisdiction, such as secretaries of State. It is also up to the State Court of Auditors (TCE-SP) to assess the 'smoothness' of contracts, the so-called 'fine-tooth comb'.

In the letter he sent to the Attorney General of SP, Souza also criticized another controversial decision taken by the bandeirante government, to determine, for learning purposes, the exclusive use of digital books, dispensing, at the same time, with printed textbooks (10 million copies), which would be provided by the Ministry of Education (MEC) – through the transfer of funds from the National Fund for the Development of Education (FNDE) – to serve elementary school students 2 (6th to 9th grade) during the school period from 2024.

By ruling out replacing Feder, Freitas would have eased the crisis, by stating that “the content of the slides taught" in the classroom would be "deepened" in books printed by the government itself and distributed in schools. Asked about the connection between the company in which he owns a company and the Secretariat, Feder preferred to remain silent.
