Lula's inauguration: understand how the event works

This Sunday, January 1st, will be held the inauguration of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) as the 39th president elected in Brazilsince proclamation of the Republic.

This is the third mandate of the politician who already held the position between 2003 and 2010.

The event is expected to be attended by 300,000 people.

Official inauguration ceremony

The forecast is that the official event of Lula's inauguration will begin at 2 pm.

the traditional parade in the car by the Esplanada dos Ministérios marks the beginning of the ceremony.

Afterwards, the elected president goes to the National Congress, where he will be received by the presidents of the Chamber of Deputies and the Federal Senate. This moment will be the formalization of the presidential inauguration.

Lula must swear an oath to Constitution and a first speech after taking office.

With that, both the president and Geraldo Alckmin, vice president, should proceed to the Planalto Palace. They will go up the ramp for the transfer of the presidential sash.

Jair Bolsonaro must not show up to pass the sash.

In the Great Hall of the Palace, Lula is due to meet with international authorities and heads of state. On the occasion, ministers must sign their acts of investiture. An official photo will be taken.

festival of the future

In addition to the official event, Festival do Futuro will feature the presentation of several artists from different musical rhythms. The shows will be presented on two stages called Gal Costa and Elza Soares, in honor of the two artists who died this year.

The festival will start from 10am and will stop at 1pm for official events. The shows will resume at 6:30 pm.

A popular parade with different popular Brazilian cultural manifestations should mark the beginning of the event. There will be presentations of toré, bumba meu boi, afoxé, maracatu, fanfares, guitar players, capoeira, among others.
