O stamp is a typical circle dance from the northeast of the state of For, located in rregion At thepart of Brazil. origin of carimbó
Of indigenous origin, the term carimbó comes from the tupi, korimbó, which means “stick that produces sound”. The name if refers to curimbó, considered the main musical instrument used in this folkloric manifestation. The curimbó is a kind of drum made from a hollowed-out trunk that is played with the hands.
Carimbó from Pará was brought to Brazil by African slaves. Later, indigenous and European influences, especially Iberian, were incorporated.
The habit of dancing came from the custom of farmers and fishermen who, at the end of another day of work, danced to the rhythm of the drum.

In 2014, the carimbó was declared, by the Consultive Council of Cultural Heritage, as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Brazil. And, in 2015, the dance officially received the title of Cultural Heritage of Brazil by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (Iphan).
On the 26th of August, it is held in Pará the Municipal Day of Carimbó. The date is the birth of Mestre Verequete, a musician who became known as the King of Carimbó.
Characteristics of carimbó
The stamp is a circle dance performed in pairs. The man invites the woman to dance by clapping his hands in front of her.
