Brazil is starting today (13) vaccines against Mpox, popularly called monkeypox.
The first vaccination phase of the campaign will be applied to 47,000 people. The recommendation of the Ministry of Health is that vaccines be applied with an interval of 30 days between doses.
Shipping of doses will be done according to requests from each state. The vaccine applied in Brazil is from the company Bavarian Nordic A/S. According to the folder, the first batch of vaccines is intended for the following audiences:
Pre-exposure:
people living with HIV/AIDS with an immune status identified by a CD4 T lymphocyte count of less than 200 cells in the last six months
laboratory professionals who work in places of exposure to the virus
Post-exposure
- Persons who have had direct contact with bodily fluids and secretions from persons suspected, probable or confirmed to have Mpox.

Mpox cases in Brazil
According to data from the Ministry of Health, Brazil has registered more than 50,000 suspected cases of Mpox. Of these, 20.3% were confirmed.

Previously, Mpox was called monkeypox. The name of the disease changed last year, after public consultation by the World Health Organization.
A smallpoxof monkeys is a viral disease similar to human smallpox (eradicated in the world, in 1980, through a worldwide vaccination campaign), however, milder and less lethal.
