IPTU: Rio de Janeiro starts issuing payment guides

The Property Tax and Urban Territorial (IPTU) in the city of Rio de Janeiro began to be sent to the cariocas last Monday, 16. The physical guides are being delivered by Mail, taxpayers must pay the first installment or the single tax quota by February 7, 2023.

It is worth mentioning that, for those who prefer to pay in cash, there will be a 7% discount on the tax amount, as happened last year.

The physical guides have two barcodes, one of which is for the first installment and the other for the payment of the single quota with the discount. They will be sent in letter format, with a single sheet in the envelope.

As of January 23, it will be possible for the taxpayer to request the payment slip at the IPTU Service Points. In addition, on the same date, the online request will be available through the Carioca Digital application – available for Android and iOS – or through the website carioca.rio.

These digital options allow all IPTU installments to be downloaded, so that it will not be necessary to access the website to issue the slips on a monthly basis. It is important that the taxpayer has the registration number of the property, which can be found in IPTUs from previous years, to make the request, either in person or digitally.

The City Hall of Rio de Janeiro also issued a warning so that taxpayers do not suffer blows relating to the payment of tax. The Municipal Secretary of Finance and Planning highlighted that it does not communicate or send invoices via SMS or WhatsApp.
