Sustainability: China installs the largest wind turbine on the planet

China continues to demonstrate its commitment to clean energy production and has recently reaffirmed this commitment by inaugurating the largest wind turbine in the world, which was installed on the southeast coast of the country.

This colossal 16-megawatt turbine is a key part of the Zhangpu Liuao project, a deepwater wind farm managed by the China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG).

The installation process, which lasted three days, was completed on Thursday (29), according to information from CTG and wind turbine manufacturer Goldwind.

With 152 meters high, equivalent to a 50-story building, and 123 meters long blades that can sweep a Area of about 50 thousand square meters, this new wind turbine is a true giant in the field of energy renewable.

numbers impress

Capable of generating 34.2 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity per revolution, a single turbine this size can sustain a family of three for a week.

Over the course of a year, CTG estimates that the turbine can produce over 66 gigawatt hours (GWh), providing energy for approximately 36,000 households.

The new addition will increase the annual production of the Zhangpu Liuao wind farm to around 1.6 terawatt hours (TWh), a savings of around 500,000 tons of coal and a reduction in emissions of approximately 1.36 million tons per annum.

Operation of wind turbine in China

The wind turbine incorporates the latest offshore wind power generation technology, with hundreds of sensors and a laser radar capable of monitoring operational conditions, including temperature, moisture and wind speed.

Thanks to its sophisticated digital technology, the turbine can automatically adjust the angle of the blades and regulate the power, improving environmental adaptability and allowing wide application in the coastal conditions of southeastern Africa. China.

The installation was carried out with the help of the Baihetan platform, the fourth generation of power installation platform. China's offshore wind farm, capable of operating at depths of up to 70 meters and with a lifting capacity of 2,000 tons.

With a total investment of US$885 million, the project now enters a commissioning and testing phase before the turbine be connected to the power grid, marking a significant step forward for China and its commitment to clean energy and renewable.
