The first soda stored in a can was Diet Coke, made by Reynolds Metals Company, in the United States. The following year, RC Cola expanded the use of aluminum cans for its production, followed by the manufacturer Pepsi-Cola. Since these two companies were pioneers and great influencers in the market, after the commercialization of their products there was a significant increase in sales of this type of packaging.
In 1975, in Brazil, Skol commercialized guarana in aluminum, Guaraná Skol. During the same period, Daniel F. Cudzik, from Reynolds Metalz developed the system called “Stay-on-tab”, with the opening in the seal replacing the “pull-lab”. After the launch, the manufacturers adhered to the new system and applied it to their beverage packaging. Having pioneered the use of the American brewery Fall City Brewing Company.
To this day, companies use the stay-on-tab opening and the functionality of this space in the seal is often on the agenda in conversations, groups and social networks. The question in question is: what is the purpose of the hole in the cans?
