The words 'dispensa' and 'despensa' have very similar pronunciations, however, their meanings are different, which makes them homophones.

'Exemption' (with 'i') is the conjugated form in the 3rd person singular of the verb dispensar. The meaning of this term refers to something that was sent away, exempt, or even the document in which an exemption is granted for something, observe the examples below:
João brought the document that proves his dismissal.
Mary's Education dismissal compliments.

While 'pantry' (with 'e') is a noun and refers to the place where food is kept, observe the example:
There is a lack of rice and oil in the pantry.
I don't have pantry at home, we store food in the kitchen cupboard.
