Violence is responsible for the interruption of classes in 669 schools…
Degree: Kindergarten, from 0 to 6 years old;
Tip: Prepare the lesson for June 12 or Valentine's Eve.
Necessary materials
- Heart-shaped paper cutout (two per student)
- Watercolor paint
- Brush (one per student)
- Cups of water to clean brush
- Aprons (if you have)
Introduction
- To begin the lesson, draw a big heart on the whiteboard. Ask a few students to lead questions that will activate their knowledge about Valentine's Day. Great examples include: What is this shape? What do hearts mean or show? What holiday is associated with hearts?
- Explain to students that today they will learn about Valentine's Day.
- Ask students some questions they can use to connect with who they love in their own lives. Examples include: who do you love? Why do you love them?
- Tell students that they are going to do a craft project to give to someone they love.
guided practice
- Write the words “I love you” on the whiteboard inside the heart for your students to reference. If your class is less advanced, you might consider using all caps as they are easier for kids to write.
- Distribute brushes, water cups, aprons and heart cutouts. Students will be able to use the water to wet their brushes and paint.
- Encourage students to paint the hearts using watercolors. Also say that they should copy the sentence on the board to give one of the hearts to a friend they like very much and another to someone in the family.
- As your class works, walk around the room to help students who are having problems.
- Remind the class to tell people how much they love them as they hand out the painted paper hearts.
