Geography Lesson Plan - Geographic features and ecoregion for early grades

THEME: Geographic features and ecoregion.

SUGGESTED TIME: A 45 to 50 minute class.

GOALS:

  • Know the characteristics of Physical and Human Geography;
  • Explore the natural and human characteristics of the Geography of Brazil;
  • Check which are the Brazilian ecoregions and compare them to the ecoregions of other countries.

NECESSARY MATERIALS:

  • Geography book
  • Articles from a trusted source on the Internet

DEVELOPMENT:

1. Divide the class into groups of two.

2. Provide each group with an activity sheet.

3. If the Internet is available, students can use it for additional information. If not available, ask students to use the Geography textbook.

4. Discuss the following questions:

  • Which are the natural characteristics of Physical Geography?

(Mountains, rivers, bodies of water, etc.) Answers will vary.

  • What are the characteristics of human geography?

(Man-made features such as bridges, buildings, monuments, etc.) Answers may vary.

  • What is a ecoregion?

(Regions composed of recurrent ecosystems, with similar climate and relief throughout.)

ASSESSMENT:

Ask students:

1. Which ecoregions would they prefer to live in and why.

2. What do they think is the most interesting human characteristic of Brazil and why.

3. What do they think is the most interesting physical feature of Brazil and why.

4. Some physical and human characteristics that can be found in your state.

5. What kind of ecoregion do they live in.

Ask students to compare Brazil's ecoregions and geographic features to those of some other country.
