Lesson Plan – Do I need it? Desires vs. needs

O class plan about professions aims to teach about different professions and make the student reflect on the job of their dreams.

MATERIAL REQUIRED:

  • Paper;
  • Colored pencils.

INTRODUCTION:

At the top of the board write "My dream job“. Tell students “I am a teacher” and point to yourself. Then say “But… I want to be one…”.

Don't say anything yet. Under the heading “My Dream Job” draw a picture of a profession (eg a police officer) and ask everyone to guess what their dream job is.

DEVELOPMENT:

Give each student a piece of paper and ask them to draw their dream job and write their name at the bottom. As they draw, go around the room asking questions and giving lots of praise and encouragement with the drawings. When everyone has finished, ask each student to hold their paper in front of them and say “I want to be one/a…”. For higher grade students, you can ask a few questions, such as “Why do you want to be (a doctor)?”
