How to apply for the benefit?

The process to access the benefit is a bit complicated, as a deep analysis of the taxpayer's situation is required. To request it, it is necessary to contact the INSS through the agency's website, application or telephone center 135. Thus, the worker will be directed to a medical expertise.

For this reason, it is important to have all the medical reports, exams and certificates that prove your disability, whether due to accident or illness. Thus, the expert must thoroughly analyze each situation, without considering one disease more than the other, since there is no list of approved conditions for receiving the benefit or not.

Even after approval, the taxpayer must carry out a consultation and update process on their medical condition every two years. However, such visits will not be required for HIV retirees or workers who are over 60 years of age.

Difference between disability retirement and sickness benefit

This is a very common doubt among taxpayers, but the difference is quite simple. In this case, disability retirement, now called disability benefit, is permanent, so it must be given until the end of the citizen's life. The sick pay is temporary, being offered on a provisional basis to any worker who is absent for more than two weeks.

In this way, the worker will have access to payments based on the national minimum wage. Thus, retirement values will be equivalent to 60% of the average of this floor, plus an increase of 2% for each year worked after 20 years for men and 15 years for women.
