Check out the predecessors of the current monarch King Charles III:
1. Charles I (1625 and 1649)
King Charles I was an absolutist King in England, Scotland and Ireland, and was a member of the Stuart family. He has direct descent to the throne, as the second son of his father, the former King of England James I and Queen Anne of Denmark.
His period of governance was considered troubled, being marked by major religious and political conflicts. Like the attempted implementation of Anglicanism in Scotland, and the English Civil War. Where members of parliament opposed the forces of the King and Scotland, aiming to create a parliamentary monarchy.
After the end of the conflict, Charles I was arrested, but even so he did not deny himself the parliamentary monarchy, believing in his divine right to govern. Thus, in 1649 King Charles I was accused of treason and beheaded in public square ending the English monarchy and starting a republican period.
2. Charles II (1660 to 1685)
With the decline of republicanism, the English monarchy was resumed in 1660 with the eldest son of Charles I, who until that moment lived in exile.
His government was marked by certain conflicts, such as the revolt between Protestants and Catholics, in addition to the Monmouth rebellion in Scotland. However, it is characterized as a period of prosperity and cultural growth, being known as the English Restoration.
Thus, unlike his father, King Charles II was in possession of the throne until the day of his death. And due to the absence of heirs, his successor was his younger brother James II.
