What are the rules for choosing the name?
In some countries, the imagination of citizens is limited by a list of banned and allowed names, such as Germany, Portugal and Japan, for example. The only regulation in force in Brazil at this time was enacted in 1998. Registry officials were allowed to refuse names that were considered outlandish.
Is it possible to change the name?
If your name is on a list of unique (or strange) names, you have the right to change it. However, this claim must first be reviewed by a judge to ensure this strategy is not used to avoid disputes or lawsuits. If the reason is plausible, “rebaptism” may be requested within 12 months of turning 18.
