Most people are unaware of the codes. There are some that are even popular because they appear in movies and series, such as: “Mayday, mayday, mayday!”. You must have heard this and other codes at some point in your life. But do you know them all?
However, there are many codes that are unknown and whose existence we have no idea or even imagine what it means. For example, you don't know what code is used when a child goes missing or when a bomb threat arises, do you?
That's why we'll talk about some of the important codewords. Learn more about secret codes below.
Codes considered most important
- “Code 10”: Used by merchants when they suspect someone is committing credit card fraud.
- US law enforcement uses several codes beginning with the number 10. Example: 10-35 for serious crime alert and 10-89 for bomb threat.
- Code red: usually used on cruises when there is an outbreak of serious illness on the ship.
- If a child vomits at Disneyland, officials will refer to it as a “protein spill” or “Code v.”
- Code 1 is said for blood, code 2 for urine/faeces and code 3 for vomit.
- “Pan-Pan” is usually used when there is a problem, but it is understood to be a mild occurrence, i.e. not life threatening, so using “Mayday” would be overkill.
