The Census survey by IBGE

This is one of the biggest in the world. Your research provides information about the country's socioeconomic situation. It is the duty of IBGE provide information on the 5,570 municipalities in Brazil to the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU).

When visited by a census taker, citizens are obliged to respond to the survey, but not all know this and have not been alerted to its importance for Brazil's statistics to be evaluated.

It is worth pointing out that the low number of IBGE census takers is also an impact factor in this delay in the Census.

According to the institute itself, by December 25th, around 16.1% of citizens had not yet responded to the questionnaire. This generates a direct impact on other studies of great importance for the country. Given the unforeseen circumstances, the IBGE informed that the Census collection will be extended until January.

Fine for those who do not respond to the survey

Law No. 5534/68 obliges the entire Brazilian population, whether a public or private legal entity, as well as individuals, to respond to the survey. In case of non-compliance with the law, the citizen can pay a fine of up to R$12,000.

It gets even bigger if a lie is found in the Census responses. In such cases, the value may be equivalent to double. By answering the IBGE survey, citizens, in addition to contributing to the country's most important statistics institute, will also be getting rid of a very high fine.

Didn't receive the visit, but want to respond?

IBGE made the Dial-Census available to inhabitants of municipalities that have not yet received census takers. There are about 120 operators to collect survey responses through number 137. The call is free and can be made between 8am and 9.30pm.
