Who has never downloaded an antivirus on their cell phone to be more secure when surfing the internet? However, these resources are not always entirely reliable, as there are some that are, in fact, banking pest apps. Antivirus steal bank details
The main problem with these applications was that, along with their installation, there was also a “bank plague” malware. This is a type of system that can bypass the security of your cell phone to access bank applications. With that, there would be the theft of passwords and general data of the accounts that we have on our cell phones.
And if we consider that nowadays we have practically all our bank details on our cell phones, we understand the danger. According to Check Point Software, customers are induced to allow applications to access the cell phone, which is somewhat a common pattern. However, when agreeing to access, the customer did not know that he was activating the hacker system capable of stealing his credentials.
In all, six apps received the notification and were consequently excluded from the Play Store. Check out what they are:
- Atom Clean-Booster, Antivirus;
- Antivirus, Super Cleaner;
- Alpha Antivirus, Cleaner;
- Powerful Cleaner, Antivirus;
- Center Security – Antivirus;
- Center Security – Antivirus (updated version with different icon).
Suspected Russian attack
In addition to showing how the apps could be harmful to customers, Check Point Software also pointed out the likelihood that the software was of Russian origin. This is because the systems would be equipped with a tool called “geofencing”, which consists of limiting or even blocking access in certain countries. On this it turned out that there was a blockade for Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, China, Romania and India. However, these are just suspicions for now.
