Check the changes of the new RG
The new RG model will be digital, with the name RG Único, as it unifies the card number through the Individual Taxpayer Registration (CPF) throughout the national territory. In addition, one of the major changes of the new document is that it will present a QR Code to check authenticity and with a unique number. This is to reduce the possibility of fraud and forgery of the RG.
In this way, it will also serve online, further increasing the functionality of this document, and facilitating the process both for responsible bodies and for Brazilians.
So far, the information is that the request for the identity card will be made by each state. Therefore, in case of loss or theft, when requesting a new RG, another number will be seen on the document.
Understand if new RG replaces other documents
One of the biggest doubts about the implementation of the new RG is its possible replacement of other documents, mainly CNH and passport. According to the federal government, this statement is unfounded, since they are documents with different purposes. Therefore, its use should still occur in cases where presentation is required.
However, the addition of the MRZ code to the new RG allows the citizen to use it for international trips to Mercosur to facilitate the process. According to official information, this will be possible because it will meet the internationally required standard. However, it does not exclude the need to have a passport for verification.
