The State allows the request for a duplicate of documents free of charge in case of theft. For this, it is necessary to carry out a police report before requesting them.
See how easy it is to file a police report online:
- First, go to your state's police station website;
- After that, select the occurrence of Theft or Theft of documents;
- When you finish the newsletter, you will receive an email with a link;
- This link will give you access to print the police report;
- With documents in hand, just go to the Secretariat of Public Security, Civil Police or Poupatempo and request the duplicate.
Can I get a duplicate in case of loss?
In this case, the State allows the free process of duplicate for only a few cases. Check out:
- Men over 65 years old;
- Person who declares himself poor and proves it through the Social Registration Number (NIS);
- Persons unemployed in the last 3 months;
- Women over 60 years old.
Necessary documents

- Birth or Marriage Certificate;

Are there fees for the first copy of documents?
No! Every Brazilian has the right to issue the first copy of their documents completely free of charge. To do so, go to the responsible bodies (Secretary of Public Security, Civil Police or Poupatempo) and only take your Birth Certificate.
