Last Sunday, the 13th, several people from all over the country took the first day of the 2022 National High School Examination (Enem) tests. In all, around 2,490,880 students were present. According to preliminary information released by the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep), the total number corresponds to 73.3% of those enrolled for the tests in both versions, printed and digital.

The total number of applicants for this year's exam was 3.4 million. It is worth mentioning that the Enem was created with the intention of serving as a kind of passport to enter public colleges in the country. This year, the exam was carried out in 11,175 different locations and in approximately 1,747 municipalities throughout Brazil. The gates for the second day of competition will open at 12:00 and close at 13:00, as was done last Sunday.
Although there will not be another essay, the tests will also start at 1.30 pm and will continue until 6.30 pm, ending half an hour earlier than on the first Sunday. Students must, obligatorily, deliver their answer books by the scheduled end time.
The grades of this exam serve as the main criterion for the selection process, as well as for access to aid made available by the government, such as the Bottom Student Financing System (FIES).
The exam score is also used by Portuguese institutions that have an agreement with Inep. Through this partnership, Brazilian students guarantee greater ease to enter colleges in Portugal.
Covid-19
Candidates who tested positive for Covid-19 or another infectious disease listed in the public notice will have up to five working days after the last test Sunday, the 20th, in order to request the reapplication of the exam in question. The tests were rescheduled for January 10 and 11, 2023.
