Globally, Homecoming grossed $1 billion over Christmas weekend despite the COVID-19 pandemic continue to influence would-be viewers' willingness to leave their homes and venture into movie theaters.
Its opening weekend box office was $253 million domestically and $587.24 million worldwide. Its popularity is reflected in CinemaScore polls with moviegoers, which rated the film an A+.
Homecoming is Tom Holland's third solo film as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, in which he teams up with Doctor Strange on an adventure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the film, he fights various villains from the 2002-2007 Spider-Man trilogy, which starred Tobey Maguire in the title role.
The antagonists of Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), starring Andrew Garfield in the lead role, also appear in Homecoming. Most notably, the previous two Spider-Men had significant cameos in the film.
Despite her triumph, Holland worried that Homecoming represents the pinnacle of her career, saying, "It's a shame that it happened when I was 25.” However, the resounding success puts Holland squarely on the list of most in-demand actors in the industry.
Analysts estimate he could bring in $5 million to $10 million from mainstream movies and increase that value in the coming decades, as many of today's action stars are twice their age or more.
