What is the relationship between gambling and IQ?

In a study published in the Journal of Behavioral Decision Making, produced by academics at the University of Eastern Finland and the University of Liverpool, an interesting relationship was discovered. In this finding, men with high IQs were more likely to engage in skill games such as horse racing and the like.

How was the study conducted?

In this experiment, over 15,000 Finns completed an IQ test as part of the mandatory military process upon joining the Finnish Defense Forces. This information was cross-referenced with records of the men's online gaming behavior along with their socioeconomic status, income, and education.

In this way, the women did not enter for the tests, since they do not have the obligatory enlistment. With this, the stored data keep information only of the men.

The results

Professor David Forrest, from the University of Liverpool Management School, says that the study carried out by they found a strong correlation between men with high IQ and those who participate in gambling qualified.

However, no definitive answer has been provided as to why someone with that level of intelligence would enjoy gambling so much. At the same time, scholars believe that it is possible that the answer lies in the mathematical challenge imposed by this type of bet, as it draws the attention of smart people.

Despite being carried out in a contemplated institution, the researchers emphasize the importance of not generalizing the fact. Coupled with this, there is little previous research on the association between intelligence and skill-based play. Therefore, the research in question does not yet provide a definitive conclusion about this.
