Gautam Adani dropped out of college and is now a billionaire
The Indian entrepreneur is responsible for the energy, transport and port conglomerate known as the Adani Group. However, the trajectory for the businessman to occupy the position of the richest person in the world comes from years.
Still young, Gautam abandoned his studies at the University of Gujarat, where he was studying Business Administration, and started working with precious stones, such as diamonds, in Mumbai, region of India.
But it was after joining his brother's plastics company that Adani was able to establish the Adani Enterprises group in 1988. Since then, the Indian collects successful businesses in the most diverse branches.
Kidnappings and terrorist attacks
The notoriety earned Adani the survival of some dangerous situations, such as a kidnapping in 1998. At the time, he and another business partner, known as Shantilal Patel, were held in jail by a group of men.
Years later, in 2008, the Taj Mahal hotel suffered an attack and Gautam Adani, who was having dinner at the hotel, hid in the basement so as not to be killed by terrorists.
Today, Gautam owns a group with a market value of over USD 258 billion and owns the largest commercial port in India, as well as a controlling interest in Mumbai Airport.
In terms of fortune, Adani is second only to Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, whose net worth is estimated at 264 billion dollars.
