Some foods with high durability
The following foods last a long time when they are reserved in the right way and do not go through industrial processes, that is, they need to be natural foods. In addition, you don't even have to do much for them to remain with the same quality for years, with some simple care. See what foods these are!
dry grains
If you have chickpeas, beans or lentils at home, then know that they can last for many years as long as they remain dry and at room temperature. That's because the factor that most collaborates to make the grains rot is moisture. Thus, by keeping them dry you ensure that all the nutrients in the grains remain intact.
Honey
When carrying out excavations in tombs that are more than 3,000 years old, archaeologists found millenary honey and in full condition for consumption. This is partly due to the small amounts of hydrogen peroxide in the food. However, when going through industrial processes honey can be perishable, while the natural one lasts a long time!
White rice
The fibers in brown rice are great for maintaining the nutritional value of the grain, however they can contribute to the food spoiling quickly. On the other hand, by removing this fiber coating and keeping the rice at low temperatures, somewhere around 3º C, it is possible to make it last up to 30 years!
Bitter chocolate
Another food that has an impressive shelf life is dark chocolate which, according to research, can last up to two years, as long as it is kept at constant temperatures. This happens because of the low fat content that this product has, so the more milk and sugar a chocolate has, the faster it can perish.
Corn meal
Finally, we have a food that is very popular in Brazil: cornmeal. In this case, the low water content of the food helps it to keep intact for a longer time, as long as it is in an airy place. Including, the same can be said of other similar products, such as corn starch and corn flour flakes.
