Learn more about the fuel subsidy proposal

On March 8, some ministers, including Economy Minister Paulo Guedes, discussed the possibility of creating a project that offers a direct subsidy for diesel for three months.

Thus, according to disclosed information, the proposal could cost up to R$ 27 billion for the government's coffers. With that, the idea would be for the government to subsidize a barrel of oil that cost more than US$ 95. This is because, with the volatility of the market due to the war, the value per unit of this super precious metal can increase too much, as happened recently, with the barrel reaching almost $130.

The estimated amount of R$ 27 billion would include the possibility of a subsidy by the government of 30% of Petrobras' delay. However, at the end of the 2-hour meeting, representatives were unable to reach consensus on the grant project.

Bill 11/2020

While there is still no consensus on the proposal for a diesel subsidy, Complementary Bill 11/2020 was approved by the Federal Senate. Like the previous idea, this project is currently being discussed as a way to mitigate the effects of the international crisis on oil prices in Brazil.

Thus, this PLP will unify the rate and define a fixed value for the Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS). In addition, with it it will be possible to expand more than 5 million families in the Gas Aid.
