O'Carroll, along with the Foxglove group, a UK legal campaign group, alleges that Facebook violated Article 21 of the General Regulations of UK Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which gives people the right to object to the processing of their personal data for the purposes of marketing.
The Activist says that if this process is successful, it could set precedents for millions of Facebook users to also file lawsuits against the company. O'Carrol has filed a complaint with the high court and is awaiting the Meta company's recognition of the claim.
