The proposal of Study at Home is to present a grouping of educational content for those who have had their school routine changed due to the pandemic of the new coronavirus.

Belonging part of the set of solutions created by the Education Laboratory of the Roberto Marinho Foundation, the project aims to mitigate the impact of the removal of almost 50 million students in Brazil from classrooms.

Among the solutions, all free, three are in progress:

  1. Teacher training
  2. Multiplatform content distribution (TV and internet)
  3. Online educational services (Open Classes)

Open Classes

The general manager of Roberto Marinho Foundation Education Laboratory, João Alegria, says that the name Classes Abertas is due to being a democratic product, with no restriction to the public.

“All you have to do is sign up and the student becomes part of a class, which is supervised by a teacher. This teacher helps the class feed on content, activities, other possibilities of links that have to do with what the students saw on television”, argues João Alegria.

The structure of Classes Abertas consists of ten classes with two models. There are eight thematic rooms, with weekly cycles and topics suggested by the teachers, and two tutoring spaces, with material from elementary and high school.

Open Classes have daily content updates, with materials, videos, activities and interaction with teachers. Thus, in addition to the content present in the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC), the professors at the Roberto Marinho Foundation selected extracurricular materials for the studies.

Canal Futura that helps with the study routine

As soon as the first school closures were announced, as an emergency measure to contain the spread of Covid-19, Canal Futura started three new programming tracks.

The new schedule follows school hours, from Monday to Friday, at 8:00 am, 1:00 pm and 6:15 pm, and the content can be seen on closed TV or free of charge over the internet, at FuturaPlay.

There are many educational contents shown on the station, such as teleclasses and countless educational programs.

“The intention is not to replace the school, but to keep the classroom experience as close as possible. The concept is: let's keep the engine warm, because when they go back to the classroom, the student will be ready”, says Alegria.

O Canal Futura provides more than 600 video classes on Youtube, with materials from elementary school II leveled to the National Common Curricular Base. Among the subjects covered are Arts, Physics, Mathematics, Portuguese and Chemistry.

“Many teenagers and young people look for classes on the internet. We had already produced the classes and were going to release them throughout the year, but now we decided to publish them all at once to help at this time”, says Alegria.

Teacher training

Training teachers to know how to use digital and audiovisual resources in pedagogical practice is one of the Roberto Marinho Foundation's proposals.

Teachers have access, on the Telecurso website, to content for the best way in which they can work with students, such as tips for recording video lessons and/or perform live broadcasts.
