How does the new Women's Retirement Bill work?
The new project aims to provide up to 10 percentage points more in the pension value for women who dedicate themselves to maternal care. Thus, the text brings excerpts from Constitutional Amendment 103, of 2019, which determines the calculation of retirement.
However, the increase in the amount of the benefit varies between categories, see below:
- 2 percentage points per child (a);
- 4 percentage points if the child is adopted;
- Plus 2 extra percentage points if the child is disabled or has a severe intellectual or mental disability.
The initiative was authored by Deputy Paulo Bengtson (PTB/BA) and was inspired by a recent attitude in Argentina. This is because the country found that women's time dedicated to caring for children should also be recognized for the payment of the benefit. After all, mothers need appropriate social protection, as working hours are very extensive and their working hours are composed of activities outside the home, domestic chores and care for children.
Processing of the new bill
For the time being, the bill is being processed conclusively and needs to be analyzed by several commissions. Among them are:
- Defense of Women's Rights;
- Social Security and Family;
- Finance and Taxation;
- Constitution and Justice and Citizenship.
Finally, this attitude intends to provide greater security for women who are mothers, dedicate themselves to their children and do not have time to work.
In addition, other similar projects are being processed in the Chamber, such as Retirement for maternal care at the INSS. The objective of this proposal is to include the period of maternity leave in the calculation of retirement for women over 60 years of age.
